What to Expect During Medical Detox
Medical detox is the process of ridding the body of substances and achieving medical stabilization. Patients can expect a comprehensive assessment, medical monitoring, symptom management, and supportive care designed to promote safety and comfort throughout withdrawal.
Admissions and Intake Process
The intake process typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, during which you will complete check-in and paperwork, including ID verification, and undergo a medical screening by a nurse or provider that includes a urine drug screen and/or breathalyzer. Your bag will be searched, and clothing changed out – a process that guarantees the safety and privacy of both you and our other patients.
Once your prescription medications are counted, labeled, and secured, you will receive a brief facility tour and orientation. This tour will include our outdoor patio, nature access, relaxation spaces, and your private room and bathroom. You will be able to begin your rest and recovery immediately.

Yes. In accordance with the ACA, Select Health covers alcohol rehab and drug rehab. If you are considering treatment, have your primary healthcare provider assess your needs and make recommendations. Their determination will support your coverage through documentation and referral.
Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, prescription drugs, cocaine, and stimulants all require medical detox for management of withdrawal symptoms and the mitigation of associated risks such as seizures or death. Medical detox provides round-the-clock care, including monitoring of vitals and symptoms, as well as medication-assisted treatments. Clinical oversight increases wellness outcomes, including the reduced risk of relapse.
Alcohol detox typically lasts 3 to 5 days, while detox from other substances may last 5 to 10 days. The length of your detox will be influenced by the substance, the length of time, how heavily it was used, and how many times you have previously experienced withdrawal.
When you have achieved stabilization, our team will arrange for the next steps in your care. Based on your unique needs, this may be residential living, referral to a sober living environment (SLE), inpatient rehab, IOP, or PHP. At these facilities, you will undergo behavioral therapy to address thoughts and behaviors that contribute to substance use. This may include group therapy or attendance at peer support groups.
