Detox Program in Utah at Diamond Detox

Diamond Detox is a private, non-hospital substance detox facility in Utah that provides 24/7 clinical oversight. Clients receive care that upholds their dignity and is offered with integrity. Medical detox and stabilization are achieved under the supervision of a registered nurse before transition into long-term treatment and recovery.

We treat the person as a whole instead of only focusing on the symptoms of substance use disorder (SUD). By doing so, we’re able to provide care that begins the process of healing the entire body. This method allows each individual to begin healing from the inside out and embark on a path to a purpose-driven way of living.

What Is Medical Detoxification?

Medical detoxification is the medically supervised process of safely managing acute withdrawal as the body rids itself of substances. Detox focuses on stabilizing vital signs, relieving severe symptoms, and preparing clients for ongoing addiction treatment.

Withdrawal Symptoms and Clinical Stabilization

Withdrawal symptoms are physical and psychological reactions that occur when the body and brain readjust to the absence of a substance to which a person has become adapted. These symptoms range from anxiety and tremors to nausea, sweating, and intense cravings.

Clinical stabilization is the critical process of managing these acute symptoms through medical supervision. Care includes hydration and medication-assisted treatment to restore physiological balance and ensure patient safety.

Why Detox Is Essential for Long-Term Recovery

Detox is the essential first step in addiction recovery because it safely removes harmful substances from the body, managing acute withdrawal symptoms and stabilizing physical health. This stabilization is critical – it alleviates the immediate physical dependence on drugs or alcohol, allowing the brain’s chemistry to begin resetting.

Without detox, individuals risk severe, potentially life-threatening complications such as seizures or delirium tremens (DTs), particularly when withdrawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines.

By clearing toxins, detox provides the mental clarity and emotional stability necessary to then engage in psychological treatment such as therapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions during which the root causes of addiction are uncovered and addressed. This transition from physical detox to psychological healing significantly increases the likelihood of lasting sobriety, as patients can actively participate in rehabilitation rather than experiencing the barrier of withdrawal distress.

Detox alone is not a cure for addiction and serves only as the foundation for long-term recovery. Ongoing treatment options include inpatient, outpatient, and residential treatment, as well as participation in support groups.

What to Expect From Medical Detoxification

Medical detoxification involves safely managing withdrawal symptoms under the supervision of medical professionals. During detox, individuals may receive 24/7 monitoring, medications to ease discomfort, and supportive care to help stabilize both their physical and emotional health before continuing treatment.

Managing Withdrawal Symptoms
Safely

Detox is the clinical stabilization of the body as it rids itself of substances. It typically takes 3 to 14 days for full detox, depending on the length and amount of substance use or drug addiction. The process includes withdrawal symptoms as the body adapts to its new “normal.”

Alcohol detox, opioid, and benzodiazepine cessation are especially high-risk and require medical supervision. At Diamond Detox, clients are monitored 24/7 by a registered nurse and clinical staff. Prescription medications are provided as needed to create a more comfortable and safer first step to drug addiction recovery.

Why Medical Detox Is the First Step in Addiction Treatment

Medical detoxification is the critical first step in addiction treatment because it safely manages the physical dangers of withdrawal. Withdrawal can be severe or life-threatening without professional supervision. By clearing addictive substances from the body under medical care, the client can achieve stabilized physical health.

With this foundation for the recovery process established, clients can then engage in the psychological and behavioral therapies required for long-term recovery. Mental health services and long-term inpatient, outpatient, or residential treatment programs round out recovery options, creating ongoing opportunities for addiction education and personal growth. Continued care beyond detox supports well-being by reducing the risk of relapse.

Substance Use Disorders We Treat

Medical detoxification begins with a comprehensive medical assessment and continuous monitoring to manage withdrawal symptoms and ensure safety. Expect individualized care, symptom-targeted medications, and coordination with next-step treatment planning.

Alcohol Detox and Alcohol Addiction

We support clients through the process of detoxification from multiple substances. This includes alcohol detox due to alcohol addiction. We manage withdrawal symptoms with medication assistance where necessary, provide round-the-clock clinical supervision, and offer a comfortable, private environment to ease the detox experience.

Opioids, Prescription Drugs, and Substance Use Disorder

We provide supervised detox from opioids, prescription drugs, and other types of substance use disorder. Drug addiction impacts your body in multiple ways. Our staff can prescribe medications used in medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine if needed. We are set up for your comfort.

Stimulants and Other Substances

Withdrawal from stimulants and other substances such as cocaine and methamphetamine requires systemic stabilization with medical oversight. Our treatment facilities provide patients with the environment they need to prioritize rest. Rooms (and bathrooms) are private, allowing for uninterrupted sleep. We provide nutrient-dense meals for nutrition-assisted treatment. Patients need only focus on their recovery.

Evidence-Based, Trauma-Informed Care

Our approach to detox considers each client’s unique experiences, including trauma, for the most comfortable, supportive experience. Evidence-based approaches, grounded in trauma-informed care, ensure a well-rounded stabilization period, best preparing clients for ongoing treatment.

Medical Detox, MAT, and Clinical Stabilization

We support recovery through medically-assisted treatment during medical detox. As clients enter the clinical stabilization process, their individual treatment needs will be assessed. Using a combination of evidence-based care techniques, we guide patients through every step of detox.

We recognize patients are not a monolith. Everyone who enters our care does so as a whole person with unique needs. Our staff utilizes several evidence-based approaches, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), to provide the highest level of care.

Trauma-Informed Staff and Supportive Environment

To better meet each person’s needs in a calm, supportive environment, our staff is trauma-informed. In fact, most of our staff have experience with recovery. Their intimate understanding of detox as a first step and essential process creates a space where patients are allowed to detox with dignity and safety.

Personalized Treatment Plans
and Care Approach

Our approach combines proven medical and behavioral interventions with a trauma-informed framework to address the whole person. This ensures clinical stabilization and continuity of care while respecting each client’s lived experience and individual recovery goals.

Individualized Detox and Stabilization Plans

Upon entry, our detox staff sets up individualized detox and stabilization plans to minimize discomfort and maximize wellness. The detox process is a unique experience, with treatment plans curated to the client. We optimize the path to well-being through evidence-based therapies and trauma-informed staff members.

A gentle daily structure combines medical monitoring, nutritional support, optional movement, and holistic therapies to promote stabilization and overall healing.

Private Rooms, Meals, and Comfort Amenities

Clients enjoy a concierge detox environment. Our goal is to allow each patient to focus solely on their recovery.

To make detox as safe and comfortable as possible, we provide:

  • Chef-prepared meals

Discharge Planning
and Continuum of Care

Discharge planning begins at admission to ensure a seamless transition to the appropriate next level of care based on clinical need. Our full-time case managers coordinate referrals, transportation, and logistics so clients leave with a clear, supported plan for ongoing recovery.

Transitioning Into Residential or Outpatient Care

Aftercare planning begins at admission. Clients are assessed to determine not only their level of immediate need, but also their ongoing care needs. The treatment that happens within our facility keeps patients’ next steps in mind.

Next steps might include a move to residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), or outpatient counseling. Our goal is each client’s long-term well-being. The needs of the client, type of addiction, and insurance plans are all taken into account as we support each individual’s move into the next level of care.

Case Management and Coordination of Next Steps

Leaving our detox facility does not mean a loss of support. Every client’s detox journey includes access to our full-time case manager, who will coordinate referrals, transportation, and continuity of care. This ensures the next steps don’t happen alone and that individual care can continue beyond our doors, as continuity of care is associated with higher success outcomes for those in recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, detox and rehab are not the same. While both are critical components of addiction treatment, they serve distinct purposes. Detox is a short-term medical process focused on safely clearing substances from the body and managing physical withdrawal symptoms. Rehab is a longer-term behavioral treatment aimed at addressing the psychological, emotional, and social roots of addiction to ensure long-term sobriety.

When packing for medical detox, include comfortable, modest clothing for 5 to 7 days. Be sure to include layers and non-skid footwear, as body temperature often fluctuates during withdrawal. You should also bring personal items, such as alcohol-free hygiene products in their original, unopened containers, and all current prescription medications in their original pharmacy bottles with clear labels.

You will also need to provide your government-issued photo ID, insurance cards, and a list of emergency contacts. Plan for downtime and maximize your comfort by bringing books, magazines, journals, and photos of loved ones. Since most facilities provide meals and linens, you will not need to bring outside food, drinks, or personal bedding unless otherwise instructed.

Most detox centers prohibit cell phones, laptops, and cameras. While you can bring them to admission, these items are typically locked away or banned to ensure a distraction-free environment. This keeps you focused on your recovery.

Explicitly prohibited items beyond electronics include:

  • Alcohol-based products, including mouthwash, perfumes, and colognes
  • Weapons and sharp objects
  • Valuables
  • Clothing or reading materials that depict substance use or are sexually explicit

Attending detox is voluntary unless you are a danger to yourself or others due to substance use. In that case, your admission may be involuntary.

Voluntary admission is associated with higher recovery outcomes. If you believe you have a substance use disorder, contact Diamond Detox today to set up your assessment. We will support you in discontinuing whatever substance(s) you are using in a safe and comfortable environment and help you determine the next steps after detox.

Medical detox typically lasts between 3 and 10 days. The exact duration varies significantly based on the substance used, the severity of addiction, and individual health factors.

For alcohol, withdrawal symptoms often peak within 24 to 72 hours, with acute detox generally completing within 5 to 7 days. Short-acting opioids (like heroin) usually require 7 to 10 days, while long-acting opioids (like methadone) may take 10 to 14 days or longer. Benzodiazepines often require a gradual taper over several weeks to ensure safety. Physical detox from stimulants may last 5 to 7 days, but psychological symptoms like cravings can persist for months.

Detox is considered the first phase of treatment and is not a substitute for ongoing therapy or rehabilitation.

No. Diamond Detox does not offer care beyond initial detox. However, we are part of the Utah system of care. We provide referrals to outpatient and inpatient treatment providers and recovery centers. Long-term rehabilitative care contributes to better recovery outcomes from substance use disorders – we are happy to support you in locating the best fit.
